Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles

Activities in connection with industrial activities

Innovation is fundamental for the development of technology companies because nowadays they require more and more modelling instead of the costly or out or reach experiments used in the past. This modelling is both theoretical and numerical and requires knowledge in fields such as: scientific computing, numerical analysis, partial differential equations, applied probability, statistics, data analysis (data mining), control, "automatics", optimisation, discrete mathematics image and signal processing, etc.

The Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), created in 1983 to promote and develop applied mathematics through research, industrial applications, publications, education and the training of researchers and engineers, aims at knowing, encouraging and facilitating the new developments in applied mathematics, and wishes to be a structure facilitating the interaction of all "persons" interested in the applications of mathematics, in the "academic and company worlds".

The SMAI organises annually the Cemracs, summer school of advanced research which includes the realization of projets proposed by companies. Besides, the SMAI also organises, 2 - 3 times a year, in association with the CNRS, the Math-Industrie meetings, cycle of half-days in Paris or whole days elsewhere in France, to present the applications of mathematics in the industry and the services.

To better manage its industrial relations, the SMAI is now launching a new partnership program with the industrial and corporate research centers. A first action will be the creation of three levels of membership for companies (see the section MEMBERSHIP for the modalities). This new policy should facilitate the contacts between academic and industrial researchers, among whom many already have partnerships with companies. New openings could be thus created for your PhD students or post-doctoral students looking for a job.
