Location: LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, France
Team: Polynomial Optimization (POP)
Project: ANR-DFG MONET (Moment-sum-of-squares Optimization for NETwork
dynamics)
Start Date: Early 2026
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Join the MONET project, a Franco-German collaboration (LAAS-CNRS &
FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg). We are developing new methods to overcome the
scalability barriers of the moment-SOS hierarchy. The project focuses on
networked dynamical systems governed by nonlinear hyperbolic PDEs, which
are critical for applications like gas pipelines, traffic flow, and
telecommunication networks.
THE ROLE:
We are seeking a 24-month post-doctoral fellow to bridge theoretical
analysis and computational implementation.
Key responsibilities will be drawn from the following:
- Develop new network-adapted moment-SOS hierarchies that exploit
sparsity.
- Theoretically analyze these new hierarchies for relaxation gaps.
- Implement space-time decomposition methods (inspired by FEM) to reduce
problem size.
- Improve numerical conditioning using interpolation bases and exploit
low-rank solution structure.
EXPECTED PROFILE:
We seek a candidate with a PhD in Applied Mathematics, Control Theory,
Optimization, or a related field. The position is flexible and can be
tailored to the profiles:
- Analysis-Oriented: Strong background in functional analysis, measure
theory, convex optimization, and (ideally) PDE theory.
- Computation-Oriented: Strong background in numerical methods for
optimization (SDP), numerical linear algebra, and scientific computing
(Julia, Matlab, or Python).
WE OFFER:
- A 24-month funded researcher position at LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse,
France.
- A dynamic, international research environment.
- Travel budget for conferences and multiple research visits to FAU,
Erlangen, Germany.
HOW TO APPLY:
Please send your CV, a cover letter, and contact info for 2-3 references
to Didier Henrion henrion@laas.fr

Une école de printemps consacrée au Transport Optimal Faible et aux
barycentres de Wasserstein aura lieu à Toulon du 30 mars au 2 avril.
Nous aurons le plaisir d’accueillir les mini-cours suivants :
- Agnès Desolneux : Gaussian mixture model optimal transport with
extensions to unbalanced OT and Gromov-Wasserstein
- Andrea Natale : signed Wasserstein barycenters and their link with WOT
and associated numerics
- Guillaume Carlier : Wasserstein barycenters and applications
- Julio Backhof : Weak OT, with an emphasis on Martingale OT

Dear Friends and Colleagues, xe would like to let you know that we are organizing a Conference in honor of Felix Otto, that will take place Monday, 29 June 2026 to Friday, 3 July 2026 at the Sorbonne Université, Campus les Cordeliers, Paris. The Conference is meant as a celebration of Felix’s 60th birthday, with presentations from collaborators and influential colleagues in a familiar atmosphere. It will be an opportunity to recognize his many and varied contributions as mentor and collaborator.
The schedule has intentionally been kept not too dense in order to leave ample time for discussions (mathematical and otherwise). In addition to the scientific talks, we plan to have a bit of fun with speeches, photos, and personal recollections.
We would be very happy if you were able to join the event, hence this early notice. Please save the date and feel free to spread the word to colleagues and group members.
Registration is free but mandatory, and financial support is not available. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
With our best wishes, the organizers (Julian Fischer, Lorenzo Giacomelli, Antoine Gloria, Michael Goldman, Radu Ignat and Maria G. Westdickenberg)
